Information

The Flight Centre Schools Triathlon is back! Children get in to teams of four to swim, cycle and run for charity!

Who can enter? Children in school years 3-8 must get into teams of four. You must be in teams with children of a similar age band. I.e. teams can include children of school years 3-4, years 5-6, or years 7-8.

How far? We encourage children with a range of abilities, from competitive teams to those who just want to have a fun day out with friends. Teams complete the course as a relay. Each team member will complete a certain distance of each sporting discipline. Distances will vary depending on your age group.

FUNDRAISING

The Flight Centre Schools Triathlon is organised by Restless Development, an international development charity that puts young people at the very heart of dealing with the issues that affect them and their communities.

The event will help raise funds for Restless Development to support us in the vital work that we do with young people. Whether it’s ending child marriage, HIV, youth unemployment or gender inequality, we support young people to become leaders and transform their communities. By taking part in Restless Development’s Schools Triathlon, each participant will help the young people that Restless Development supports!

To be able to offer free entry for the event, each participant is asked to reach a £100 fundraising target – with a minimum of £50 raised to be able to take part. The first £50 raised will go to Restless Development. The second £50 raised will go to your school’s chosen charity. Anything raised over £100 will be donated to Restless Development as the organising charity.

BALLOT ENTRY

Due to a great increase in popularity and limited capacity at the venue, the Flight Centre Schools Triathlon employs a ballot system. Alongside this, each school invited to the event has a limit to the number of teams that can take part. This allows us to deliver assemblies to all schools throughout the term.

All teams wishing to take part must complete the ballot form before securing a place. One parent will lead in completing this form. Please ensure that you have the following information to hand before completing the form: all four participant names, parent names and contact emails for all four participants, a team name. Once the ballot form is completed, the lead parent will be notified whether a team has secured a place or not within approximately two weeks.

EVENT DETAILS

The event runs throughout the day in a wave system and therefore there are lots of start times. Your start time will vary depending on your age group. As a general rule, school years 3 and 4 will start their races between 9-12:30, followed by years 5 and 6, and finally years 7 and 8 in the afternoon. Exact start times will be sent out a few weeks ahead of the event. Please arrive an hour before your start time.

The event includes:

·     Water station on the course and at the finish

·     Medals for all

·     Goodie water bottles for all

·     Electronic chip timing

·     Certificates for all fundraisers

Course: The pool is inside, safe and secure and needs no special clothing to take part. The bike course may be on both grass and tarmac so we ask participants to use either hybrid or mountain bikes.

Catering: Food and beverage stands will be present on the day for participants and spectators to use.
